Talk to your stylist.

You’re not alone! In fact, it’s estimated that by 2021, more than $20 billion will be spent on gray hair products and services. So if you’re having a hard time deciding on a solution to your silver hair dilemma, you’re in good company. Luckily for you, we’ve made it easy to find out what works best for your hair.

First up: talk to your stylist. Your stylist is an expert in all things beauty and fashion (which means they know what looks best), so let them help guide you through this process of finding the perfect solution for your unique needs and lifestyle. A great stylist can answer questions about what products work best with specific hair types—and whether or not a particular service is worth investing in (we’ll talk more about that later). They also have experience working with clients who are experiencing similar issues as yours, so let them know how much maintenance or upkeep each option requires before making any final decisions.”

Share your inspiration with your stylist.

In addition to bringing your hair down to the salon, you should also bring inspiration. This can include a photo of what you want to look like, examples of hairstyles that inspire you and those that don’t. You may want to bring in photos of celebrities with similar hair color or length as yourself. Your stylist will take these into consideration when planning how they’ll achieve your new look.

Don’t be afraid of the process.

Before you start the process, it’s important to be realistic about the time and effort it will take. Going gray is a major commitment, and can take years. Be patient and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

Take it easy on yourself.

As you go through the process of growing out your gray hair, it can be easy to get down on yourself.

Don’t! It’s like they say in the beauty industry: there’s no such thing as bad hair days—only bad attitudes.

You don’t have to deny your age or let other people’s opinions affect your outlook on life; instead, focus on what makes YOU happy and keep doing that. You may feel like letting go of the old self is a good idea because it’s no longer working for you—but that doesn’t mean we have to lose ourselves entirely while we’re at it! I’ve found my gray hair makes me look more mature (some might even say wise), but I’m still just as fun-loving and silly as ever. Even if others don’t see how beautiful this new version of myself can be, I do…and that’s all that matters!

If you’re going gray, you may need a trim or touch-up to keep the color fresh. If your hair is already quite gray, consider going lighter right away to balance out the tone. Or if you have some silver strands but still want to keep your natural color, opt for a more subtle tone like dark blonde or light brown (especially if it’s been awhile since your last color appointment).

Going gray doesn’t have to feel like the end of the world- you can rock your silver locks.

As you transition from your prior color to gray, you will experience a period of time in which the two colors blend together. This may be a bit disconcerting at first, but I assure you that it’s completely normal.

Many people choose to embrace this transitional period by trying out different ways of styling their hair. This can be an exciting time for anyone who loves experimenting with their look!

It’s also important to remember that transitioning into gray doesn’t have to mean cutting all ties with past colors- there are several shades that can allow you to keep some of your favorite reds and browns while still blending seamlessly into your new silver mane (I’m looking at YOU ash blonde).
