The first step to creating a customizable blueprint is washing and cleaning the surface area.

The first step to creating a customizable blueprint is washing and cleaning the surface area. This should be done with soap and water, then let dry before moving on to the next steps. Rubbing alcohol can also be used to clean off any fingerprints or dirt that may have accumulated on your surface, after which it should be thoroughly dried again with paper towels or cloths.

Once you’ve done this, you’re ready for the next step: painting!

The next thing you do is mix the indigo powder and water until it forms a thin paste.

  • Mixing the powder and water into a paste is called “tempering,” as in tempera paint or tempering chocolate. This process makes your paint more fluid, so it will be easier to apply when painting with a brush or using stencils. If you use too much water, however, the mixture won’t stay put on your material when you’re ready to use it; if this happens, just add more powder until you reach the right consistency.
  • A thinner consistency is better for painting—you’ll want something that’s liquid enough to pour easily but not so runny that it drips off of your object before setting up completely (about ten minutes). Thicker mixtures are better suited for stamping onto surfaces with stamps made from rubber or plastic; they’ll dry almost instantly due to their higher viscosity than paints thinner in texture because they contain less air particles per unit volume compared with liquids like milk which also contains fat globules suspended within them due to being an emulsion rather than pure liquid.”

Then paint your design onto the area you are working with.

You can also use a paintbrush, or even a sponge or roller. You can even use a stencil if you want to be fancy about it!

You’re done! Now you have an Indigo-dyed piece of art, ready to hang and enjoy!

Next, you’ll want to put your blueprint under a UV light for about half an hour, making sure that you cover it with plastic and paint.

This will allow the indigo powder to absorb all the excess dye from your blueprint and make it completely waterproof. This will also help prevent any type of discoloration or bleaching in the future.

After half an hour you can take the plastic off, but don’t take off your blueprint!

After half an hour, you can take off the plastic covering and your blueprint will be dry. Don’t take it out of the frame, though! You’ll want to put it in the oven for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees F. Then let it cool down before removing from oven.

This is how my first one turned out:

The last step is to put in some baking soda to neutralize the excess acidity found in The last thing that you will need is vinegar and water mixture.

Now that you’ve added the vinegar and water mixture, let it sit for about half an hour. After that, rinse it with some cold water to neutralize any remaining acidity.

Indigo powder is great for DIY projects!

Indigo powder can be used in almost any DIY project you can think of. It’s not just for dyeing fabric, though it does do that well! Indigo powder can also be used as a paint or dye on any surface you choose. This makes it incredibly versatile, so let us show you some of our favorite ways to use indigo powder:

  • Make your own custom paper by mixing your own pigments into paper pulp!
  • Create your own fabric paints from scratch by adding iron oxide to the recipe!
  • Use different types of wood stains to create unique finishes on wood surfaces.
