5 Ways to Stay Positive During Winter and Not Fail
They say winter is the least popular season, and I totally understand why. Even though I love skiing and playing in the snow, I also love being outside and having a vitamin D fix. It definitely can be a hard time of year for many people. But with these tips, you’ll be able to stay positive during winter:
Winter can be a tough time of year, especially for people that like to be outside. If you’re someone who loves spending your weekends hiking or playing tennis, then winter can feel like you’re being forced indoors for most of the season. The lack of sunlight and vitamin D can also make it hard to maintain a positive attitude during the colder months.
So how do we keep ourselves from succumbing to winter blues? Well, there are some easy ways to stay positive during winter:
- Wear sunscreen! This one seems obvious because we all know about sun damage and skin cancer but it’s so important in winter too! If you need more help staying safe from the sun this summer then check out our blog “Things To Consider When You’re Going Outdoors” where we talk all about protecting yourself while being active outdoors including sunscreen tips!
- Find indoor activities that make you happy whether it’s cooking up delicious meals with friends or getting into exercise classes at the gym! In addition to enjoying time with friends/family members who live far away because they don’t have anyone else nearby either except maybe an elderly parent who doesn’t want anything much more than peace & quiet when visiting on holidays;; these types of things also serve as great distractions from any negative thoughts/emotions while leaving plenty space mentally available after finishing each task instead having them taking up all day long–which would mean no room left over for anything else–so even if something bad happened during work hours later that evening there wouldn’t be any negative impact from ignoring it during those initial hours spent doing something else which could potentially help prevent future mental health issues occurring due 2 stress leading 2 depression 4 example…
Stay Active
It’s important to stay active during the winter. It will help you battle cabin fever, which is a very real thing. Winter is also a great time for indoor workouts because it’s too cold to go outside.
- Go for walks during the day – Not only will this get you out and about, but it will help keep your body from getting stiff from sitting all day in front of the computer!
- Sign up for an exercise class – There are a lot of great classes available that are fun and challenging, like indoor rock climbing or yoga! You’ll also be meeting new people who can help contribute to your positive attitude.
- Do some light weight lifting or running on the treadmill/elliptical machine – If you’re already working out regularly but want something different than what feels routine after months of doing cardio at home or at a gym then try adding some light weights into your routine once per week along with cardio exercises 3-4 times per week max throughout winter months (no more than 1 hour total time spent exercising).
Find Hobbies
The second step you can take is to find a hobby that will keep your mind sharp, and stay off the couch. It’s one thing to be physically active during winter, but it also important to keep your brain engaged as well.
A hobby can do all of these things, plus more! Hobbies are great ways to make new friends, learn new skills and relieve stress. Plus they make a great excuse for getting out of the house when they’re at their worst (like during blizzards).
Set Goals
Goal setting is a great way to stay positive. Set goals for the week, month, season and year. If you want to go even more in depth than this go ahead and set goals for each day, hour or even minute of your life! Once these goals are established it’s important not to take them lightly. Make sure there’s a clear action plan that leads up to the actual reaching of that goal by following through with things such as planning out meals or working out regularly if those are parts of your lifestyle that need improvement during winter time when it becomes colder outside which makes it harder for people who live in colder climates like New York City and Chicago where temperatures can drop down below zero degrees Fahrenheit at night time so having an exercise routine really helps keep our bodies healthy because we don’t want our immune systems getting weak due to lack of oxygen circulating around our brains while sleeping at night (which would make us tired throughout their day).
Enjoy the Weather!
If you’re feeling depressed, the weather can make it worse. There are times of year when nothing seems to go right, but during winter it seems like the universe is working against you on every level. So not only do you have your own problems and challenges, but they are compounded by the cold and dark days that seem to drag on forever.
So what can we do? How do we keep ourselves positive in this kind of environment? For starters—enjoy the weather! There is so much beauty in winter: snowflakes falling from the sky or icicles hanging from roofs; strong winds blowing through trees or waves crashing along coastlines; frozen lakes shimmering from beneath layers of ice… there is no shortage of things to appreciate about winter. When I am feeling down, I spend time outside looking at nature and remembering how lucky I am that I live here instead of somewhere else where life would be completely different thanks to things like climate change or being unable to afford heating bills for their home each month (a situation which affects many people). A trip up north into Canada would be even better since temperatures tend
to drop even further there than they do down south near where most Americans live.”
Spend Time With Your Friends and Family
Spending time with friends and family is one of the best ways to stay positive during winter. Spending time with people who make you laugh and smile will help lift your spirits and make you feel better about yourself. You can also do something fun together, such as going for a hike, skating at an ice rink or visiting a museum. Spending time doing what you like is another great way to stay positive during winter because it helps you focus on the good things in life instead of dwelling on the negative ones like cold weather or school work deadlines.
With these tips, you can enjoy the winter season and make it fun!
So, what can you do to stay positive during winter? Well, there are many ways. Here are some of our favorites:
- Take advantage of the long nights by getting extra sleep, reading a book or watching TV show you’ve been meaning to catch up on.
- Go outside when it’s nice and go for a walk in the park near your house. If it’s too cold outside or if you live somewhere with no parks nearby, go inside and enjoy time with your family members or friends instead! You could also try making something together like cookies or cupcakes!
- Have fun playing games that require teamwork such as tag or hide-and-seek (or whatever else works well!). These kinds of activities will help build friendships between everyone else who plays them too! Make sure everyone knows what their role is beforehand so everything goes smoothly once playtime starts 🙂
