How Do You Know When To Switch Your Hair Color? A blog about knowing when to change your hair color.

You try and stretch your color generations.

Now, you and your colorist have decided that it’s time for a change and you’re ready to try something new. You’ve been thinking about trying red hair color for years—but now seems like the right time! But how do you know if the timing is right?

There are many reasons why you might consider changing your hair color, but here are just some of them:

  • You want to try a new look. If you feel like your current style has lost its freshness and sparkle, consider switching up the look of your locks with a new shade of hair color. This can also apply in reverse: if you feel like experimenting with a bolder style or adding more fun colors into the mix (like pink), then now may be an opportune moment as well.
  • Your current colors don’t match your skin tone or eye color anymore! This sort of change is often subtle enough so as not to throw off anyone who knows us personally (or at least intimately enough), but when we step back and take notice ourselves? Wowza! It really makes us stand out from all those other people who aren’t rocking their natural tresses these days….

You’ve never colored your hair before.

If you’ve never colored your hair before, it’s best to start with a temporary color product. Go to a professional stylist who will help you choose the right shade and develop a plan of action for giving your hair the best care afterward. If you love how it turns out and want to commit, then do so! But if not, don’t feel pressured by society into changing yourself just because other people are doing it. You can always start again later on when you’re ready for something new.

You’re ready to have fun.

You are ready to have fun with your hair.

  • Change your hair color to match your personality or the season. Do you want a dramatic change? Maybe something bold? Or maybe a subtle change is more appropriate for you. The point here is that you should choose what feels right for YOU, not what anyone else thinks looks good on other people—especially if those other people are friends and family who have no idea how well they’re actually doing at making decisions about their own lives. Try something different!
  • Add some color in there! If you’ve got some highlights (or lowlights), then go ahead and take it all off so that they can shine through more clearly. Have some fun with this one: maybe try something like rainbow streaks down the middle of your head! Don’t worry about whether or not it will look good; just get out there and make it happen!

You can’t see yourself without it anymore.

It’s easy to get attached to a specific color you’ve worn for a long time. And with the help of your stylist, it’s easy to make that color look good on you. But if you think it’s time for a change and you’re still not sure, this is what I look for:

  • A friend or family member will say something like, “Wow! Your hair looks great today.”
  • You look at yourself in the mirror and realize how much better your skin looks than before (this can happen if your new shade contrasts with your skin tone).
  • You can’t see yourself without it anymore! If this happens—and I mean really can’t see yourself without it—then yeah, I’d say go ahead with the change.

If you’re in any of these scenarios, it might be time to switch your hair color!

So, when it comes to changing your hair color and style…

  • Have fun with it. If you’re switching up your look for the first time in a while, there’s no need to be afraid to try something new! Do something that makes you feel confident and beautiful.
  • Be bold. Switching up your hair color can be an exciting time—there’s so much freedom to experiment without worrying about messing up your natural shade or growing out roots. If you’ve always wanted pink highlights or platinum blonde streaks, go for it! Nothing says “I’m feeling myself” like bold colors and styles that stand out from everyone else’s boring locks.
  • Don’t be afraid of commitment (or mistakes). You can always change back if something doesn’t work out—but if it does work out? Well then maybe this is only the beginning of your journey towards finding yourself through personal style exploration! So don’t stress over making sure everything stays perfect forever; instead focus on having fun with whatever changes come along next for you
