Choose the right color

Choosing the right hair color at home is not difficult, but it is important. You want to make sure you are choosing a color that matches your natural shade best. If you want to make a drastic change or go from dark brown to blonde, then we recommend going to a salon. For most people, having some highlights done first will help determine if they like the new look before committing themselves completely by dying all of their hair with that new hue.

If you’re happy with your current hair color and just want an update for autumn or winter, then experiment with different shades until you find one that works for you! It’s always good practice when dyeing your own hair at home to match it up with other items in your room such as rugs and wallpapers so that everything looks cohesive once colored.*

If this sounds confusing (and remember: we said it was easy!), don’t worry! We have lots more tips coming up on how do choose the right tone according out below…

Read the instructions carefully

The most important thing to do when you’re trying something new is to read the instructions carefully. You should have a clear idea of what you want to achieve, and understand the risks and benefits of this particular hair color product before you start. It’s also helpful if you have a sense of your own tolerance for risk: are you prepared for the worst, or hoping for the best?

Once your hair is covered in dye (and it will be!), don’t make any sudden movements that might disturb it—try not even talking too loudly!

Time it right

  • Schedule your hair color appointment at the right time. We mean this literally, but also figuratively. You’ve got to time it right when scheduling a professional hair color appointment—but even more importantly, you must make sure you’re booked in during a time when being at home is feasible for yourself and anyone else who lives with you.
  • The best time to schedule your color treatment is on a day when there are no other important events happening in your life. If there are things like work or school that require your presence, then reschedule until those responsibilities are over; otherwise, they can distract from (and potentially sabotage) the results of efficiently achieving good results!
  • Don’t plan on doing anything strenuous after getting home from having your hair done professionally either—even if it’s just walking around outside for an hour or two before heading back inside again! Being active means that sweat and moisture can get into contact with freshly dyed strands which could result in unwanted fading throughout subsequent days unless precautions were taken beforehand (see below).

Buy a hair color with a built-in conditioner

Buy a hair color with a built-in conditioner.

Not only does this help protect your hair from the damage that can occur when you dye it, but it also helps to prolong the life of your color. When you use a conditioner made for colored hair, it will not only provide moisture and prevent drying out of the cuticle layer of your strands, but it will make them shinier as well.

Just add coffee (to your hair)

You can also use coffee to stimulate hair follicles and add shine, color, and moisture. Caffeine is a natural dye that helps to preserve the color of your hair. The caffeine in coffee also helps cover gray hair.

Get some highlights

If you want your hair to look fuller and brighter, consider adding highlights. Highlights don’t need to cover the whole head of hair—you can get them in any shape or size that suits your style. You can also mix up different styles of highlights (think: rainbow, ombré, etc.).

Highlights are not just for looks—they’re also a great way to touch up regrowth without having to color the entire head again.

Use a box hair color if you want permanent or semi-permanent results, or demi-permanent for more control.

Hair color products are often labeled as either permanent, semi-permanent or demi-permanent. The difference between the three is pretty straightforward:

Permanent Hair Color

Permanent hair colors contain ammonia and other chemicals that will permanently alter your strands’ pigmentation. These paints are best suited to people with lighter natural hair colors who want a darker shade; they should also be used by people whose roots grow in faster than their rest of their strands do (which is most of us).

Semi-Permanent Hair Color

Avoid pungent hair colors that have ammonia. Look for formulas with natural ingredients instead of chemical ones.

Avoid pungent hair colors that have ammonia. Look for formulas with natural ingredients instead of chemical ones. If you are sensitive to ammonia, use a hair color with natural ingredients instead of harsh chemicals.

Avoiding products with harsh chemicals is important for your health and well-being, but it’s also important to remember that not all natural ingredients are good for you either! Some can even be harmful if they’re too potent or get into contact with the skin in large amounts. The key here is moderation: know what your product contains and how much exposure is safe before using it in the bathroom (or wherever else).

Coloring your hair at home can be easy and successful with these tips.

  • Read the instructions carefully:

The first step to coloring your hair at home is reading and following the instructions on the box of hair dye. Don’t try to cut corners by skipping over any important details or doing things in a different order than they were listed on the packaging!

  • Time it right:

If you’re using an at-home kit, make sure you buy enough dye for your whole head so that you don’t have to mix multiple bottles together. Remember that different shades take longer than others–it can take as long as 30 minutes for light brown locks, but only 10 minutes for dark brown ones (that’s assuming there’s no other color added). For best results, avoid applying heat directly to freshly dyed hair until 24 hours after applying it
