The Perfect Burgundy Hair Colour for Those Who Want to Embrace the Underdog
Dark Burgundy
Burgundy hair colour is often thought of as a fashion statement, but it’s actually more than that. Burgundy is an understated colour that has been around for thousands of years. It can be used to create some stunning looks that aren’t too harsh or overbearing on the eyes.
If you’re looking for ways to use burgundy hair colour and want to know what shades are available, this article will give you everything you need to know about all aspects of burgundy hair colours.
Burgundys are typically darker than reds with varying degrees of redness from reddish browns through deep purples; however, there are many variations possible within this range including lighter hues which might not match the traditional definition but still fall under the ‘burdened’ umbrella if applied correctly (more on this later).
Chocolate Burgundy
Chocolate Burgundy is a dark brown shade with a purple undertone. It’s the perfect option for those who want to embrace the underdog, but are still wary of committing to burgundy all over! The color is rich, warm and delicious.
The products I used were:
- L’Oreal Excellence Creme Hair Colour in Chocolate Brown 5R (purchased at Target)
- Pravana Vivids in Burgundy 1V (found online)
To dye my hair this colour I first applied the chocolate brown dye evenly throughout my hair. Then I left it on for 20 minutes and washed it out, leaving my roots untouched so they would be lighter than the rest of my head! After letting it dry overnight naturally, I applied another coat of the chocolate brown dye (just enough for an extra boost). This time I did not leave it on as long because I wanted more dimension between shades rather than just one solid tone throughout.
If you’re looking for something different but don’t want anything too drastic – go ahead and try Chocolate Burgundy! You’ll love how rich this hue looks against fair skin tones or dark complexions alike!
Lighter Burgundy
If you’re looking for a bolder burgundy hair colour, consider one with more neutral undertones. Lighter burgundies are great when they’re integrated into your natural hair colour (for instance, if you have red hair). If you’re blonde and want to try darker burgundy, it’s best to go a step or two down in terms of depth.
Light browns and reds are similar enough that you can use the same formula for both; just adjust the shade as needed by adding more or less dye per strand of hair. To get a perfect blend between dark and light shades of burgundy, start out with two different types of dyes: one full-strength dye and one that’s been mixed with conditioner (since conditioner reduces the intensity of colours). Starting out with this lighter shade will allow it to blend into itself seamlessly while still covering up any white strands from previous bleaching attempts or old roots before getting anywhere near your roots!
Balayage Burgundy
To achieve this results, you need to use the following products:
- Olaplex Bond Multiplier No. 4 (You can find it on Amazon)
- Schwarzkopf Professional BC Bonacure Color Freeze (Buy at your local drugstore.)
- L’Oreal Paris Excellence Creme Haircolor in Burgundy Brown 8N/G2 (Buy it on Amazon and see if you like the results!)
Now that you’ve got the products ready, here’s what to do: First, prep your hair with a color-safe shampoo then rinse well until all shampoo is out of the hair. Next, apply Olaplex Bond Multiplier No. 4 over damp hair. Leave it in for 10 minutes before rinsing again with cold water until there’s no more product left behind! Afterward, apply Schwarzkopf Professional BC Bonacure Color Freeze over dry strands while they’re still damp from washing them earlier–leave this step in place for an hour before rinsing again with cold water until there’s no more product left behind either! Finally, rinse out any residue and style as normal using L’Oreal Paris Excellence Creme Haircolor in Burgundy Brown 8N/G2!

Burgundy hair dye can be maintained easily by following a few simple steps. First, clean your hair with a color-friendly shampoo and conditioner. This will remove any residue from the previous dye job, so that it doesn’t affect the new one. Next, rinse your hair and dry it completely before applying the burgundy colour to avoid staining anything else in contact with your hair. Finally, use some leave-in conditioner on your locks after washing them; this will help protect the colour from fading away too quickly or turning brassy!
The process for maintaining burgundy hair is similar to maintaining any other shade of shade of red or brown — except perhaps if you’re using an at-home kit where everything has been pre-measured for you beforehand (which could lead to less stress about whether there’s enough product left in each bottle).
