How to get silver hair
Step 1: Get rid of your old color.
The first step to getting your silver hair is removing any remaining traces of color from your hair. If you already have blonde or white hair, then this step can be skipped.
To remove the old color from your hair naturally, I recommend using a color-removing kit that is made specifically for this purpose. Look for one with ingredients like lemon juice, coconut oil and tea tree oil (or something similar) in it. Or if you want more natural options that still work well on all shades of brown, try these:
- Shampoo with baking soda mixed with water until it lathers up
- Rinse thoroughly in cool water
Step 2: Wash and towel dry your hair.
Now that you have your hair prepped, it’s time to wash and towel dry your hair. Wash with a clarifying shampoo while you’re in the shower. Use a deep conditioner on the ends of your hair only (you don’t want to coat your scalp in product) and leave it on for about five minutes after rinsing out the shampoo. Towel dry (don’t blow dry). Once towel dried, use a wide tooth comb or brush gently when brushing out tangles but do not brush or comb until completely dry because this could cause breakage in the fragile silver strands.
Step 3: Put on gloves and mix the Silver Line Hair Color in a bowl.
When you’re ready to apply the dye, use gloves and mix it well in a bowl. Make sure that the color is evenly mixed and has a uniform shade of silver.
If you use a brush or bowl, apply the dye with an even motion over your hair. Use a comb to make sure that your hair is fully covered by the dye.
Step 4: Start painting your hair with the silver hair dye and comb through for even coverage.
For this step, you’ll be applying the silver hair dye to your hair with either a brush or your fingers. If you’re using a brush, try to find one with synthetic bristles as they’ll be gentler on the hair than natural ones. You can also use an applicator brush to get the dye into the roots of your hair if it’s too hard to do it from top up.
Once you’ve finished applying the silver hair dye and combed through for even coverage, let it sit in your hair until it’s completely dry (this can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on how thick and long your locks are).
Step 5: After an hour, rinse it out thoroughly and style as desired.
After an hour, rinse until the water runs clear. Then, use a pH-neutralizing shampoo and conditioner to remove any traces of the silver hair dye. After your hair is thoroughly rinsed and towel dried, you can dry and style as usual. If you are going for a brighter shade of silver, follow up by applying toner at home or going to your stylist for professional application.
