How To Keep Ash Blonde Hair Color Lasting Longer

Don’t wash your hair too often

The frequency of a wash depends on your hair type, and should be adjusted according to how dirty you feel it is. If you have oily hair, then washing every other day may be best for you. For example, if I have very oily roots and dry ends and I want to keep my color looking fresh, I will wash my scalp daily with Dove Men+Care Shampoo (for men) or Pantene Pro-V Shampoo (for women). Then I apply conditioner from midshaft down as normal.

The idea behind this is that we want to remove dirt and oil from our scalp while retaining moisture in our ends. The more frequent washing will prevent buildup at the roots; plus it helps stimulate growth by encouraging blood flow near the surface of each follicle during those first few days post-color application!

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of rinsing out two products after coloring your hair like me (I prefer doing so), simply use one product instead: shampooing first then conditioning afterwards instead of vice versa as would normally be done when applying certain types of permanent hair colorings such as dyes like Manic Panic Glamazon Purple Amethyst which require pre-shampoo conditioning before application followed by post-rinse rinsing only once all traces of colorant are removed from strands using water alone without any additional help from detergents such as shampoo or conditioners containing sulfates like sodium laureth sulfate found inside most shampoos sold today since they tend not work well with colored highlights anyway because they contain proteins which could react negatively against them causing fading effects over time).

Use a color-safe shampoo

You’ll want to avoid shampoos that contain sulfates, parabens, alcohol, sodium chloride (salt), formaldehyde or fragrances. These ingredients can interact with dye and cause the hair to fade faster.

If you are not sure what ingredients your shampoo has in it then check out this list of banned products by PETA and this list of harmful chemicals found in personal care products by Women for Ethical Treatment of Animals (WETA).

Rinse with cold water

Rinse with cold water

It is important to rinse your hair with cold water. This will help seal the cuticle, prevent fading and keep your hair shiny. Cold water also helps prevent frizz and breakage.

Avoid using hot tools as much as possible

  • Avoid using hot tools as much as possible. Hot tools are not only damaging to your hair, but they also fade out your blonde dye job faster than if you let it air-dry. If you must use a blow-dryer, invest in a heat protectant spray and set the temperature on the lowest setting that will still get the job done. Also, don’t use hot tools more than once a week and try letting your hair air dry whenever possible (just be careful not to leave it out in harsh weather conditions).
  • Use a diffuser instead of drying with direct heat from dryer or hand towel/brush brushing (which can cause breakage). This will help lock in moisture for longer lasting results! You may also want to consider using rollers or curling irons instead of straightening irons when styling because these styles don’t require heat so much as shaping techniques which won’t damage new growth like blowdrying/curling does!

Use a heat protectant spray before heat-styling

Heat protectant spray is one of those products that you don’t really think about until it’s too late, and then all of a sudden your hair feels like straw and the color starts to fade. Heat styling tools—whether they’re blow dryers, straighteners or curling irons—can create damage to your hair if they’re not used correctly. Heat protectants help avoid some of this damage by creating an invisible barrier around each strand so it can retain moisture during styling and keep its natural shine. To use a heat protectant effectively:

  • Spray on damp hair before using heated styling tools; this prevents the product from being absorbed into the dryer’s heating elements (and possibly causing damage).
  • Use liberally; this will help ensure maximum coverage across all areas where heat will be applied (e.g., front pieces).
  • Let dry fully before applying any other styling products; otherwise, they may not spread evenly across each strand due to residual moisture from the previous step.”

Use deep conditioning masks regularly

Keep on top of your hair care routine. This means using deep conditioning masks regularly, which will help keep your color looking at its best. Deep conditioning masks are also great for fixing any damage that may have been done to your hair and preventing further damage. If you’re using heat styling tools on your hair, use a deep conditioning mask once a week.

Avoid splitting ends and over-processing

The biggest issue with keeping ash blonde hair color is split ends. Split ends are caused by over-processing, dyeing and heat styling. If you want to avoid the damage that causes split ends, then you should use a deep conditioning mask once a week or every other week. You can also get a trim every 6-8 weeks or so, which will help prolong the life of your hair color and make sure it doesn’t look dull. Another way to reduce damage is by using heat protectants before using hot tools such as flat irons or curling irons on your hair regularly (every day if possible).

To avoid your ash blonde hair fading fast, use a color-safe shampoo, avoid washing it too often, use deep conditioners and heat protectant sprays before heat styling.

  • Color-safe shampoo
  • Avoid washing your hair too often. A good rule of thumb is every other day, with a deep conditioning mask on the off days in between.
  • Deep conditioning masks regularly. This will help keep moisture in your hair and prevent damage from heat styling and sun exposure.
  • Use a heat protectant spray before heat styling (or air-drying) to reduce breakage and frizziness caused by the dryness of winter air, cold water from swimming, or even just brushing through wet strands after washing!
  • Rinse with cold water when you’re done styling to lock in the color instead of warm/hot water which will fade it faster than necessary!
