get the look

While we’re staying home more than we’re used to right now, it’s a good time to take stock of what we’ve got and what we might want.

Consider what you want to keep, what you want to add and what you want to change. You could do something small that makes a big difference (a new rug), or something big that makes a big difference (a whole new room). Just remember: it’s not about spending money on things; it’s about spending time with one another.

I’m looking around my house, and imagining it’s not mine—what would I change, what would I add, what would I remove?

  • Cozy up your space
  • Make it a haven
  • Add some texture, color, and life to the room
  • Add some personality and warmth to the room by adding things that you love or are special to you
  • Add some comfort so that it feels like home when you’re in it (maybe add blankets)
  • Finish with fun—what makes you happy?

Here are some ideas for changes you can make to your space, from small additions to major projects.

Here are some ideas for changes you can make to your space, from small additions to major projects.

  • Add a new piece of furniture. If you need more seating, consider adding an ottoman or bench. Bonus points if it’s extra-comfy!
  • Rearrange the furniture. It may seem like rearranging your furniture isn’t worth the effort, but depending on how much space you have in your apartment, it can really change up the look and feel of your living room without having to buy anything new. For example, moving a couch closer to windows or away from walls will let more light into the room—and that’s always nice!
  • Add a new paint colour (or two). Paint is one of those things that people tend not think about until they actually do it, then realize how much difference it makes in their home! Having neutral colours throughout our apartments helps us focus on personality rather than what colour everything is which is great because we change our minds so often when it comes down choosing shades for our own homes anyway 😉

If there’s something specific about “getting dressed” we’re missing here – like maybe there should be different categories based off season? Or maybe even subsections within each category if necessary? Let us know what needs changing around here so we can make this as helpful as possible 🙂

Make the space something you love and that reflects who you are!

So, now that you know what makes a room look good, how do you make yours look good?

The first thing to do is to get inspired. It’s easy to find design ideas from magazines, TV shows and movies. You can also ask your friends for their favorite colors and styles.

Once you’ve got some inspiration gathered, think about what kind of space you want your room to be. How would it make you feel when you’re at home? Do the colors help create this feeling? Is there anything missing from the space that could help create this mood or feeling? Will adding new furniture or artwork create more balance in the room? These are all questions worth asking when making your space something that reflects who YOU are!

Take stock of your surroundings and consider making some changes that will help you feel refreshed and inspired when things start getting back to normal.

People are creatures of habit, and if you’re anything like me, your home is filled with those familiar things that make it feel like home. I’ve always had a big collection of books (and still do), but lately I’m getting more interested in art and other special items that represent my interests. For example, I recently purchased this cool bird sculpture from the artist at an art show. It really stands out as something new and different against all my familiar bookcases!

My point here is this: take stock of what you’ve got and consider making some changes that will help you feel refreshed and inspired when things start getting back to normal. You might be surprised at how much better you’ll feel once you start putting together a space that reflects who YOU are!
