If You Don’t Know Your Warm And Cool Undertones, Here’s How To Find Out
First things first, what are undertones?
First things first, what are undertones?
Undertones are the colors that are underneath your hair color. If you have warm undertones, then your natural base tone will be more yellow or golden. If you have cool undertones, then your base tone will be more blue or violet.
If you already know which category you fall into (warm or cool), great! But if not and want to figure out what type of undertone you have so that it can help determine which color best suits your skin tone and eye color, this article has everything you need to know:
Who has cool undertones?
If you have cool undertones, your skin may look best in pastel colors and silver jewelry. You also probably have blue or green veins. Blue eyes are a good indicator of cool undertones, too; if you’re unsure about whether or not your eyes are blue or green, try this test:
- Take a flashlight (or even better, an app on your phone) and shine it directly into your eye from the side. If the pupil is dark and shows up well against the white parts of your eye then you have dark eyes—and therefore cool undertones. If it’s bright and clear then congratulations! That means that you have light eyes—and warm undertones.
Who has warm undertones?
- If you have yellow or golden skin, it’s likely that your undertones are warm.
- If you have a yellow, golden or red hair with golden highlights, it’s also likely that your undertones are warm.
- If you have green, hazel or brown eyes with gold flecks in them (like all of my friends), it’s also likely that your undertones are warm.
- If you look good in gold jewelry and earth tones like browns and oranges, chances are also pretty high that you have a warm undertone!
Who has neutral undertones?
- Neutral undertones are a mix of warm and cool. If you have neutral undertones, your skin and hair will look the same color in certain lights. Your best guess is that you have neutral undertones if your hair looks grayish (cool) when it’s lightened but also looks golden (warm) when it’s darkened.
- How can I tell if I have neutral undertones? You may be surprised to find out what category you fall into—there aren’t any hard rules here! This is just one way to get an idea of where your coloring falls within the spectrum.
- Examples of celebrities with neutral undertones include Jessica Alba, Rihanna, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman
