UO Bloggers Share Their Favorite Hair Color for Summer

Here at Urban Outfitters, we’ve got our own thoughts on the best hair colors to dye this summer. We asked our bloggers what color they’d pick if they could dye their hair right now—and the answers were pretty great.

Here’s what some of them had to say:

  • “I think I would go for red or burgundy! It’s definitely something I have wanted to do for a while but have been too scared to commit. Maybe this year will be the year?” — photographer by day, baker by night Caty Hines (pictured above)
  • “I can’t wait until my curls are long enough that I don’t need extensions anymore! Then I’ll probably get bored with them and start dying them different colors every other week … like blue! Or green! Or maybe even purple. Yeah, definitely purple.” — creative director Erica Shaffer
  • “I’m really into ombre right now (the way it looks on other people), so maybe my answer would change depending on whether or not someone else was doing it first.” — illustrator Erika Klein

What Color Should I Dye My Hair? Blue

If you’re looking for a color that will make an impact, blue is the way to go. Blue hair has become increasingly popular in recent years and it’s no wonder why: it looks great on everyone (really), from pale skinned blondes to super dark brunettes. The only downside is that some shades of blue can be hard to maintain—but if you get your hands on the right ones, they can be as easy to take care of as your natural shade.

If you’ve never dyed your hair before or are looking to try something new this summer, we recommend starting with blue! You’ll look hot as hell in any shade of blue—from aqua marine and teal to royal purple and lavender (see below). The good news is that regardless of whether or not you have black or brown hair already, there’s a shade out there for you too.

What Color Should I Dye My Hair? Lavender

Lavender is a soft color for dark hair. It’s like a grayish purple, but it’s not actually gray or purple. It’s in between those two colors and can look great on darker hair tones, especially if you want to try something different from what you usually do.

If you’ve always had your natural color (i.e., black or brown) in your life and want to try something new, lavender might be the right choice for you!

It looks good on people with dark skin tones too—in fact, I think it would work well with any tone of skin because it has such a lovely hue to it that makes anyone who wears it look beautiful!

What Color Should I Dye My Hair? Rainbow

So, what color should you dye your hair?

Well, there are a few things to consider. First off, does your hair grow out of your head in a straight line or does it have some sort of wave or curl to it? Second, do you have time for upkeep? Thirdly (and this is optional), what kind of personality do you want to portray with the color that’s on your head?

To answer these questions let’s take a look at the different kinds of hair colors:

  • Rainbow – This is an easy one because you can do multiple colors all at once and they blend together nicely. It’s great if you’re short on time and want to make sure everyone knows how much fun you’re having. For example: burgundy purple blue green yellow orange red burgundy purple blue green yellow orange red burgundy purple blue green yellow orange red burgundy purple blue green yellow orange red burgundy purple blue green yellow orange red burgundy purple blue green yellow orange red burgundy purple blue green yellow orange red burgundy…

What Color Should I Dye My Hair? Blonde

Just because you want to be blonde, doesn’t mean you have to bleach your hair in order to get the look. If you are going for a more natural look, then there are many colors available that can give you that color without damaging your hair. You can purchase a box of dye and apply it yourself at home, but a professional will make sure that it is applied correctly and evenly.

There are several different types of blonde: ash blonde (the lightest), platinum blonde (the darkest), honey/honey brown or caramel color (in between). The best way to determine which shade is right for you is by looking at examples of celebrities who have this color so that they can give insight into what works well with their complexion.

Light-colored hair needs regular maintenance as tints fade faster than darker ones will but only if they aren’t protected by other products designed specifically for bleached locks such as shampoo or conditioner specifically designed for damaged strands like Olaplex Number 3 Treatment Shampoo ($27) or Number 4 Recovery Mask ($39). This brand also offers boosters like No 3 Protecting Serum ($33) which contains UV filters plus antioxidants like vitamin E as well as aloe vera juice; hydrate using No 5 Intense Moisture Masque ($40); calm inflamed scalps using No 6 Balancing Scalp Elixir ($36).

What Color Should I Dye My Hair? Red

Red is a great choice for girls with brown eyes. Red hair can make you look like a celebrity, like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo or Wonder Woman, or even like an actress who’s been in the spotlight for years, like Jennifer Aniston (her natural hair is dark brown). Redheads are cool too! You’ll feel like a natural redhead when you wear this color. Ginger? You betcha!

If you dye your hair red, everyone will be asking who dyed it for you and where do I find one of those?

What Color Should I Dye My Hair? Green

When you’re ready to dye your hair green, the first thing you should do is find a shade that will work with your natural color. If you already have dark hair, a bright green can look less intense, whereas if you have light or blonde hair and want to go for a bolder color like this, it will be more noticeable.

Once you know what kind of green shade would suit your skin tone best, it’s time to prepare yourself for the process itself! There are plenty of products that can help make this process easier — from shampoos that keep both dyes and bleaches from getting into your eyes (very important), to gloves so that any accidental splashes don’t stain your hands.

The next step is applying the dye itself. It’s easy: just follow the instructions on its package! But remember not every brand works exactly the same way; some require two separate applications while others allow only one try at getting an even coat all over each section before washing it out again (not recommended). It’s also important not only how much dye gets used but also how long it remains on each strand during application time; if left too long on certain areas then those pieces will turn out darker than others due to absorption differences between colors/shades.”

Vote what color you should dye your hair!

After reading this blog, you should know what color your going to dye your hair.

  • If you want a hair color for summer, then you should go with Blue. It’s cool and it looks really nice in the summer.
  • If you want something more casual and fun, then Lavender is a great choice! Lavender is probably one of my favorite colors because it looks very nice in the sun or shade 🙂
  • Rainbow streaks are a super cute way to change up the look of your hair without going all out! You can have different colors like purple or blue, but there are so many options out there that I think everyone should try at least once 🙂
