How To Get Blue Black Hair, Featuring the Blue Black Hair Dye From L’Oreal

Wash Your Hair.
You’re going to need to wash your hair at least 24 hours before dying so that it is completely clean and free of any residue. If there’s any conditioner in the way, you won’t get a good result when you dye your hair blue black!
I use L’Oreal Everpure Shampoo because it’s cheap and does the job well. I don’t condition my hair because my roots have grown out quite a bit since I dyed them blue black and I found that if I did condition them, the dye wouldn’t stick as well as it might on fresh growth.
Section your hair and apply the dye.
- Section your hair and apply the dye
- Use a brush to apply the dye, starting at your roots and working down to your ends
- Keep a towel around your shoulders and ears to prevent staining
- Apply the dye to the ends of your hair last
Let the dye process.
Processing time is a little tricky, since the dye will only work with your hair on contact. You don’t want to leave the dye on longer than necessary, but you also can’t just dip it in and take it out after 45 seconds.
With that said, here are some general guidelines:
- Don’t wash your hair before processing. Your scalp could be sensitive or irritated by soap or shampoo, which would make the dye less effective. Also, if you’re trying to achieve that blue-black color as opposed to just black (which will require two separate dye jobs), washing your hair beforehand will remove any gray hairs from previous dyes and make them visible when they reappear after this process. If you do need to wash your hair before applying this dye job (say, because of an oil slick from whatever product you used last week), then make sure not use a metal comb or bowl—both will react negatively with bleach dyes such as these ones from L’Oreal Paris Feria Blue Black Color Cream Hair Dye Kit ($5). Also try not using hot water—the hotter temperature may cause more damage/irritation than necessary for this procedure.
Rinse, condition, and style as normal.
Now that you have blue black hair, it’s time to rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water. Then apply a deep conditioning treatment and style as normal. If you accidentally get some of the dye on your skin, try scrubbing it off with a little bit of soap and water or rubbing alcohol.
Dyeing your hair blue black is easy and fun!
With the right products, hair dye can be a fun way to express your style and change up your look. If you’re ready to dye your hair blue black, here are some tips for getting started:
- Find a friend who has experience dyeing their own hair. Having a friend with experience will help them keep an eye on things and ensure that nothing goes wrong!
- Wear an old t-shirt that you don’t mind getting messy (or buy one from the dollar store). Using tape or rubber bands can also help prevent any accidental stains on clothing or skin.
- Use a good quality box dye brush in order for even application of color throughout each strand of hair.
