Get the supplies.

Before you begin, gather your materials. You will need:

  • Kool-Aid powder packets
  • White conditioner (and a bottle with a spray top)
  • Dark colored towels and clothing (to keep from staining white things)
  • A comb or brush to prepare your hair before dyeing it, as well as one to brush out the dye afterwards. If possible, make sure that both combs are clean and free of any other hair products or dirt! You don’t want this stuff getting mixed up in what’s already on your head – just think of all the new colors it could create! I recommend getting an extra set of combs so that you can keep one at home and another set in whatever place where you’re going to be having fun with friends while they’re doing their own thing at home like watching TV shows or reading books. If someone else has done this process before then they may have some extras laying around too – so look around for those too!

Prepare the hair.

You must wash your hair with shampoo before starting this process. You can use a color-safe shampoo or regular shampoo that doesn’t contain ammonia.

To dry your hair, you will want to part it in the way you normally would when straightening and braiding it.

  • Put on a pair of gloves for protection and section off each piece of hair into two parts: top and bottom. Use pieces of plastic wrap (saran wrap) to tie up the bottom half of your hair so that it does not get dyed green by accident! If you have bangs, make sure they are tied up as well.
  • Next spray all over with petroleum jelly from ear line down to collarbone level before applying dye (this will keep the dye from staining skin). Be sure not to get any petroleum jelly on clothing or anything else because washing it off may take some effort! Cover shoulders with towel or plastic wrap if desired – do this quickly so dye doesn’t seep under plastic wrap (we don’t want green spots all over our wardrobe!)

Make the Kool-Aid.

Making the Kool-Aid is simple, but can be quite messy. Make sure you are working in an area that has good ventilation and plenty of room to move around.

First, mix 1 packet of unsweetened Kool-Aid with 2 cups of water (or more if needed) in a large bowl or bucket. Stir well until completely dissolved. This will produce a really bright green liquid! If you want to make it even brighter, add more packets of Kool-Aid powder until desired color intensity is achieved.

Next, pour this bright green liquid into a spray bottle and shake well so all the powder dissolves in the solution (I usually only need one packet at least).

Apply the Kool-Aid to your hair.

Now that your hair is dry, it’s time to apply the Kool-Aid. You will want to use gloves so that you do not get dye on your hands or fingers. You will also want to use a wide-tooth comb to apply the mix because this helps distribute it evenly throughout your hair.

The best way to apply the dye is in sections (the smaller the better). Starting at the roots of each section, put some of the mix on each strand from root to end before moving onto the next section of hair until all sections have been covered with a thin layer of Kool-Aid. The last thing you want when dying your hair green with kool aid is having chunks missing from different areas making it look uneven and patchy!

Make sure that every inch has been coated well enough so that there are no gaps between any strands which would lead them turning out yellow instead of green once washed off later down in steps 13 through 15 below!

Wait for the color to set.

Now that you’ve applied the Kool-Aid mixture, you’ll have to wait for it to set. You can speed this process along by heating up your hair dryer and holding it close to your head while you sleep. If you don’t have a hair dryer handy, just use a heavy blanket on top of your head and go to sleep with it like an old-fashioned hot water bottle.

It’s important that you check back after this amount of time has elapsed so that the dye will have had enough time to completely set before rinsing out. If the coloring hasn’t started washing out after this period passes, try leaving it on longer next time or using more Kool-Aid powder and less water (remember: more = darker). However, if it still doesn’t look dark enough after setting overnight—or if there are some spots where the color is still very light—you may want to try re-dying those parts with another application of product!

Dyeing methods can vary from person to person based on what type of hair they have as well as how much time they’re willing to spend perfecting their look each day; however, no matter whether someone chooses reds or pinks over blues or greens (or vice versa) we hope this article gave some useful tips about dyeing one’s tresses using Kool Aid!

Rinse out the Kool-Aid dye and style your hair.

Rinse out the Kool-Aid dye with warm water, then blot your hair dry with a towel.

Style as desired! Make sure you wear gloves while styling your hair—you probably don’t want to stain your hands either.
